I am delighted to report to you that both our local fire stations are now safe from the threat of closure.
Before Christmas the West Midlands Fire Committee launched a consultation programme on the possible closure of Hay Mills and Sheldon Fire Stations, both in the Yardley Constituency.
We immediately opposed this and launched a petition objecting.
Can I thank all of you who supported that petition along with almost 3,000 of your friends and neighbours. I was proud to present your petition at the fire service headquarters(see above).
I am informed the fire committee will formally agree to keep them open at its next committee meeting on February 9th.
I am impressed by the way the Fire Authority has taken seriously our views and acted on them. This is clearly a victory for common sense. More good news is the deployment of a ‘fast response’ vehicle at Hay Mills station. This is very welcome news.
John Hemming MP, (Birmingham Yardley)PS. Thankyou again for your support. By working together we can make a difference in our community.
